A misunderstanding over an “All You Can Eat” deal at an Indiana Applebee’s turned into a heated argument, resulting in the arrest of a Chicago woman.
- According to reports, 28-year-old Shawneesha Cobbs—who is Black—was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct on August 2nd.
- Police responded to the Applebee’s in Portage, Indiana, where they discovered Cobbs and a group of Black patrons, who had apparently been abusing the restaurant’s $15.99 “All You Can Eat” deal to feed the whole table.
- Cobbs and her group believed the deal applied to the entire table, not per person. Police then showed Cobbs the menu, which clearly stated “per person” for the deal. Management handed the group an amended bill, which led to an argument.
- Cobbs was then said to have become aggressive and “exchanged words” with another group, which led to her arrest. She was taken to Porter County Jail while her group ultimately covered the entire bill for their meal.

The group was under the impression that if they ordered the $15.99 deal for one person, the order was good for the whole table.

The bottom line: While the arrest has been portrayed as a “misunderstanding” by Black customers, similar scams from the same community are believed to have led to the collapse of the American fast-food chain Red Lobster.
- The chain—known for its all-you-can-eat shrimp deals—was recently forced to close dozens of its locations across the US and declare bankruptcy after struggling to keep up with demands of Black patrons who consistently scammed the popular menu item to feed families and friends.
