High Point, North Carolina – A 38-year-old Black man has been charged with second-degree murder following the fatal shooting of a White delivery driver at an apartment complex on Lakecrest Avenue.
The incident occurred on the evening of November 18, 2024. High Point Police responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon near the 800 block of Lakecrest Avenue at approximately 9:25 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers found 36-year-old Cameron J. Fox of Winston-Salem lying in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. Fox, who had been delivering for DoorDash with his wife Samantha, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police arrested Robert O. Bailey, a Black High Point resident, at the location. Bailey now faces charges of second-degree murder in connection with the shooting and is currently being held without bond at the Guilford County Jail in High Point.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident remains ongoing.
While police initially reported that “the shooting followed an argument between the suspect and the victim,” it has since emerged that Cameron and Samantha Fox were at the location for legitimate work purposes, complicating the circumstances of the incident.
To make matters worse, Samantha told ABC 45 News that the alleged shooter taunted her as she attempted to save Cameron’s life.
“I asked the man, ‘Where did you shoot him? I’m trying to stop the bleeding because I can’t even tell where the bleeding is coming from.’”
Samantha said the suspect replied with chilling indifference: “Your husband’s dead, there’s no saving him.”
According to a GoFundMe memorial, Cameron Fox and his wife Samantha—who is also White—were expecting their first child in June 2025 but tragically lost the baby.
At this time, the fundraiser for Cameron has raised just $550 of its $5,300 goal. The original goal was $8,000.
The fundraiser’s organizer, Nick Peluso condemned the alleged shooter while praising the life of Cameron Fox.
“While trying to make money to survive and support his wife while suffering from the loss of their unborn child,” Peluso said “[Cameron’s] life was cut short in a horrible and tragic act of needless violence at the hands of a cold blooded murderer.”
Peluso also spoke of Cameron’s positive effects on his longtime friend, Samantha Fox.
“Cameron endured and overcame many struggles and hardships in life. He very recently met and married the love of his life, Samantha K. Fox and they were both starting over from nothing. I [have] never seen Samantha happier in all the time I [have] known her,” said Peluso.
According to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting data, homicides in High Point have been declining over the past five years. Since January 2019, there have been 82 homicides, with only three reported this year.
While this is a positive trend, the steady rate of arrests for violent crimes highlights ongoing societal challenges.
In High Point, Black individuals account for a significant proportion of arrests in both homicide and violent offenses, comprising 70% and 53% of all arrests, respectively.
This disparity is striking, given that Black residents represent only 32% of the city’s population, according to Census projections.
Perhaps even more concerning is that White residents, who comprise 45% of High Point’s population, represent only about 14% of homicide arrests made annually by the High Point Police Department, despite accounting for 19% of homicide victims.
Nationwide, verbal altercations between White and Black people can escalate towards interracial violence.
In August, an unarmed White father of two was “senselessly” shot dead in Canton, Michigan. Reports say the alleged suspect was upset over a petty lawn dispute. For the crime, Police arrested a Black sex offender who barricaded himself in his own home before surrendering.
The victim, 35-year-old Nathan Morris—a Ford engineer and secretary of the 6th Congressional District’s Republican Committee—was walking around the neighborhood with his family when he was shot.
In Wellington, Florida, a Black man was arrested for the brutal execution-style murder of his two White neighbors in May, leaving behind four children without a mom and dad. The suspect was a ‘celebrated’ Black airline mechanic who was referred to as a “sweet man” by his lawyer.
An eyewitness claimed that when he was attempting to render aid to the victims, the suspect, 63-year-old Norman Scott came outside and confessed to the crime, saying, “Don’t worry, I shot them both.”
In Bel Air, Maryland, a 73-year-old White grandmother was stabbed to death in February after trying to intervene in an argument between her granddaughter and her Black boyfriend.
According to court documents, 24-year-old Angelo Terrell Spencer—who is Black—was identified as the ex-boyfriend of Mary Catherine Bland’s 17-year-old granddaughter.
