Salisbury, North Carolina – A 47-year-old White man is dead, and another victim is in critical condition after an October 6 parking lot shooting, allegedly perpetrated by a 23-year-old Black female.
At approximately 2:49 AM on October 6, Salisbury Police received a call for shots fired in the parking lot of the Fishbowl, a bar located at 127 East Innes Street.
EMS workers pronounced Donald James Krajnak dead at the scene and transported a second victim who was in critical condition to a nearby hospital.
Around 6 AM, police arrested Alexus Burshell Bost for the crime several miles away at her home.
Bost has been charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder and is being held without bail.
In North Carolina and many other states, a first-degree murder typically requires evidence of premeditation, or the crime being committed during another felony.
As the investigation continues, police have declined to comment on additional charges or any potential connection between the suspect and the two victims.
Through Krajnyak’s obituary, the Justice Report was able to determine that the deceased victim had fathered 3 children with a Caribbean woman.
One of the children, who appears to be a minor, describes Krajnyak’s actions that night as heroic but has not provided further details.
“My father passed away a hero,” the child said, “and I will never forget the sacrifices he made that night for the people he truly loved.”
Salisbury, located in central North Carolina, has a population of approximately 36,000, according to census projections. Only 48% of residents identify as White, making them a plurality.
Black residents represent the second largest group making up 37% of the population, while the remaining 15% consists of Hispanic and mixed-race individuals.
Though the small city experiences less than 10 homicides per year, the evidence of racial disharmony still leaves a mark.
In the last 5 years, Black males accounted for 65% of homicide arrests while Whites made up only 15%.
Krajnyak himself has become part of another trend in Salisbury as Whites are overrepresented among homicide victims, comprising 29% of recorded cases since 2019.
White people living in communities with a large Black population often find themselves the victims of Black violence.
A White grandmother was fatally shot outside a strip mall in Maryland earlier this month. According to police, the Black female suspect was already a person of interest in another local slaying just one week prior.
In September of this year, A 20-year-old White woman was shot and killed in a coastal city of North Carolina after a 21-year-old Black man mishandled a firearm.
